Privacy Policy

We collect information you provide directly to us, such as:

• Profile information (height, weight, activity level, dietary preferences)
• Household size, budget and location information you enter during onboarding
• Food and recipe data you input, scan or save
• Photos you choose to take or upload, such as receipts, recipe pages and dishes, and barcodes you scan with the camera
• Usage data and preferences
• Account information (email address, and your name if you sign in with Apple or Google)

We also collect information automatically through your use of our services, including device information, app usage patterns, crash diagnostics and analytics data.

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide personalised nutrition and grocery recommendations
• Analyse food costs and nutritional value
• Improve our services and user experience
• Send you important updates about your account
• Email you product news, tips and offers, which you can turn off at any time in the app
• Decide which subscription offers to show you in the app
• Provide customer support

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Your data is securely stored using industry-standard encryption. We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction.

Your profile and usage data are stored securely on our servers and are only accessible to you through your account. Data may be stored and processed on servers located outside Canada, including in the United States, and is therefore subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.

We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:

• With your explicit consent
• To comply with legal obligations
• To protect our rights and the safety of our users
• With service providers who assist in our operations, under strict confidentiality agreements

We do not share your personal data with advertisers or marketing companies.

We rely on the following third parties to operate Frugalicious. Each processes only the data needed for its function, and each has its own privacy policy that we encourage you to review:

• Supabase: account authentication and database hosting
• Google Firebase: push notifications
• Apple and Google: optional single sign-on, if you choose to use it
• RevenueCat, together with the Apple App Store and Google Play: subscription management and payment processing
• Superwall: showing subscription offers in the app. It receives your account ID, device information, how you interact with those offers, and some profile details so the offer fits you: your country and region, household size, grocery spending and budget, favourite store, goals, diet type, meals per day and how you heard about us
• PostHog: product analytics
• Sentry: crash and error reporting
• OpenAI and Google (Gemini): the AI features described below, only after you allow them
• YouTube API Services and Scrape Creators: looking up a public video when you import a recipe from a YouTube, TikTok or Instagram link. They receive the link to the video and nothing about you. YouTube's lookup is covered by the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy)
• Instacart: only when you choose to send a grocery list to Instacart

Payment card details are handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see or store your card number.

Some features use third-party AI services (OpenAI and Google Gemini) to do their work. When you use one of these features, the content you submit for it is sent to one of those providers:

• Scanning a receipt: the photo of the receipt, which may show the store, the date and part of your payment card number
• Importing a recipe: the text, web address or photo you import. For a link to a video on YouTube, TikTok or Instagram, that is the public video itself and what its creator wrote under it
• Rewriting a recipe or generating its picture: the recipe's title, ingredients and method
• Analysing a grocery list or a comparison: the foods, amounts and nutrition in it

So that the answer fits you, the analyses, receipt scans and recipe rewrites also include preferences from your profile: your goals, daily calorie and protein targets, diet, dietary restrictions and disliked foods, household size, food budget, and your country and state or province. Your postal or ZIP code is never sent to them.

Nothing is sent until you use one of these features. Importing a recipe sends only the recipe you give it (a copy of a TikTok or Instagram video is deleted as soon as the recipe has been read); for the other features, the app asks your permission before the first time. We do not send your name, email address or account details. Under the providers' API terms, this data is not used to train their models.

You can withdraw that permission at any time under Settings → App Preferences. The features that need it then stop working until you allow them again; everything else in the app is unaffected.

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Correct inaccurate information
• Delete your account and associated data
• Export your data
• Withdraw consent and opt out of certain communications

To exercise these rights, contact us through the app or at support@frugalicious.app. We will respond within the timeframes required by Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

If you are unsatisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Our service is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new privacy policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.

Your continued use of the app after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
